The performance that we received from the Elite Pro mini in the single thread didn’t surprise us too much since it was in line with what OWC was reporting. We did choose to run the single thread and four-thread so that we could saturate the drive as much as possible. The next test that we ran is IOMeter, which we ran as single-threaded and four-threaded.
These speeds from the Elite Pro mini are pretty decent, even seeing that this drive was almost able to hit all the checks. These results are fairly close to the speeds of 542MB/s that was reported by OWC. The OWC Mercury Elite Pro mini 1TB SSD was able to reach speeds of 496.9MB/s write and 511MB/s read. The Elite Pro mini also has a heatsink-type design to allow for the greatest heat dispersion that the compact drive can offer. The underside has rubber feet to allow the enclosure to stay a little off a surface so the heat doesn’t dissipate directly onto the surface it is residing on. The bottom side of the Elite Pro mini is where the enclosure is the most unique. The cable that comes with the Elite Pro mini is a decent length to accommodate for a distance that might be a little far.
On the backside of the Mercury Elite Pro mini, is the USB-C connector. On either side of the Elite Pro mini and the top, it is just the base aluminum with nothing too special about it. This does add to the looks of the Pro mini, but also some functionality to help dissipate heat. Upon viewing the Elite Pro mini from straight on, there is a slight gap on the left and right where the feet screw into the case. On the front side of the OWC Mercury Elite Pro mini SSD, there is a textured plate along with the logo to add some personality to the enclosure. On an important note, OWC hasn’t released anything about the drive being water-resistant or proof, so it is safe to assume to avoid water as much as possible. The enclosure doesn’t have any ventilation holes or fans, which adds to the versatility of taking this drive anywhere along with nearly silent operation. The build material, as stated before, is aircraft-grade aluminum, allowing the enclosure to withstand some impact and even act as a heat sink.
